Munakkaya jeedipappu masala Kura

Drumstick is the vegetable with which I never had a problem… Any way it is made, I can eat it. Whether it is in sambar or made as a curry or just boiled, combined with Tadka and peanut powder. Name a drumstick dish and Love it. May be this is a gene that I inherited from my Nanna (Dad in Telugu). He loves drumsticks and I do too!

So this is variation that I tried with the drumsticks.This dish has rich gravy made of cashew nuts so this goes really well with both rice and rotis.

3 drumsticks cut in 2 inch pieces



1 tsp. mustard

1 tsp. cumin

5 curry leaves

¼ tsp. turmeric

3 tbsp. oil

Make a paste of the below ingredients with 3-4 tbsp of water and keep aside.

Cashew nuts – 20

Poppy seeds – 3 tbsp

1 big onion

1 small tomato

1 tbsp. chili powder

½ tbsp. coriander powder

1 tbsp. freshly grated coconut.


Heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let them splutter. Now add the curry leaves and turmeric. Now add the cashew paste and fry for about 15 minutes. Add 1 ½ cups of water, add in the drum stick pieces, salt, cover and cook for 30 minutes / until the drumsticks are tender.

Serve with rice / roti.
