I have been away.. I have been real busy.. sleepless nights, countless diaper changes.. and countless smiles! yes! you guessed it right! We are blessed with a baby boy! Sanjith!
And we are back with a bang with this super tasty tangy Andhra style fish gravy.
I am not a huge fan of fish.. I eat it only in the form of deep fried fish balls or fish fingers.
My hubby loves fish and especially this Chepala Pulusu. I finally mustered the courage to cook fish with my Aunt’s guidance.
So, here is the recipe.
500 grams fish fillets
2 large onions, finely chopped
4-5 green chilies, slit
5 Tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
2 TBSP red chili powder
1 TBSP coriander powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp sugar
1 large Lime sized ball of tamarind soaked in 1 glass of water.
1 Tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp methi seeds
5 TBSP Oil
Heat oil in a shallow pan, add mustard seeds, let them splutter. Add the methi seeds and fry till they turn golden brown. Now add in the green chilies and onions. Add a pinch of turmeric and salt. Add the chopped onions and fry till they turn translucent. Add the chili powder and coriander powder and fry till they loose the raw smell. Then add the tamarind extract, sugar, curry leaves and ginger garlic paste. Boil for about 10 minutes. Add in the fish fillets and cook for about 5 minutes, garnish with coriander leaves. Do not over cook the fish. Also do not stir a lot after the fillets are added. Serve with hot rice.
