{Review} Rajdhani Thali

Summer = Mangoes, Mangoes = Aamras, Aamras + Puris = Heaven !!

I heard that Rajdhani was serving unlimited Aamras and Puris in their Thali and I had to go !

We went on a weekday night to the Phoenix Market City outlet in Bangalore. We get a royal welcome with a Tika and aarti.

Once we were seated a steady stream of dishes started being served. First came Dal, Bati churma, then some green mango and moong dal fritters, dhokla, rotla, phulka, puri, aamras, gulab jamun ki subzi, gobhi sabzi, alu palak,Aam launji, theeka dal, meetha chutney, lahsun chutney, hari mirch ka chutney,meetha dal,kadhi, chaas. Kichdi, plain rice and curd rice.

I loved the gulab jamun ki sabzi .. something really different, extremely soft jamuns, dunked in a spicy gravy. Delicious !! Then there was a green chilly chutney and chillies, coarsely ground and sauted along with cumin and garlic!

My personal favourite was Aamras and Puri.. oh damn delicious ! and I was told that the Aamras is made from handpicked Alphonso mangoes from Mumbai. I drank like 4-5 bowlfuls of Aamras. I actually stopped at 3, and the man who was attending us forcefully served 2 more katoris 🙂

The serve staff was extremely friendly and they assisted us with lot of information about the food. The serve staff has a unique way of communicating with each other, when you ask for a specific dish, they signal with their hands and voila, you have someone serving you what you like !

As Rajdhani serves Rajasthani and Gujarati fare, it isn’t a fiery spicy fare. The spices are mellow and extremely flavorsome.

I was also given a tour of the kitchen, the kitchen was well kept and I got to meet the Chef / Maharaj as they are called in Rajasthan, Jodhaji Maharaj. He told that they source fresh ingredients every day, prep starts at 8 AM for the Lunch and 6 PM for the dinner.

He also told me that they don’t have a fixed menu and keep adding new dishes every day!

We ended the meal with lot of smiles from the serve staff and a delicious array of Mukhwas.

Verdict : Must Must try ! Go soon for the Aamras, as it is available only till their Alphonso stocks last.

Price : Thali is priced at 395+ taxes for Dinner on any day. It is not exactly cheap, but you get quality food !
